MAKING YOU FEEL SAFER AT HOME

PESTPLUS IS HERE TO LOOK AFTER YOU. WE ARE JUST A CALL AWAY.

Detached

Detached houses are open to attack from pests from all sides of the building. The most common pests homeowners living in detached properties will come across are rodents, fleas and wasps. PestPlus suggests that detached properties can be easier to manage if they do have a pest problem because once the problem has been identified and treated that can be the end of the issue. There is no way from pests to enter via an adjoining property.

Semi-Detached

Semi-detached houses are prone to attack from three sides of the entire building (that is the combined two houses). The most common pests which affect semi-detached properties are rodents, silverfish and Ants. Attic spaces and wall cavities are prone to facilitating traffic of pests between houses.

Terrace

A terrace house is open to attack from rodents from all external walls on the block. Similar to a semi-detached house or apartment, a terrace is also subject to cross traffic, whereby if your next-door neighbour has a pest problem this can easily become an issue for you in your home. Common pests which cause disturbance to terrace homes include rodents, bed bugs, silverfish and ants.

Apartment

An apartment is unique in the sense that it can have adjoining apartments neighbours on all sides including above and below. Apartments are prone to attack from rodents, insects especially silverfish, cockroaches, fleas and even birds. Even the service ducts within apartment blocks serve as a route for easy travel for pests.

Communication between neighbours is extremely important if a pest control issue is identified as adjoining properties increase the risk of a pest infestation spreading rapidly.
PestPlus recommends that homeowners do the following:

  • Check that air vents have no breaks

  • Fill any hole within a wall which you can fit a biro comfortably into

  • Keep vegetation away from the house

  • Ensure gardens are kept neat and tidy

  • Do not leave animal feed out

  • Location can increase the risk of pest problems

  • Refrain from leaving animal feed out unnecessarily

  • Regular treat your pets for fleas with collars or approved veterinarian products

  • Communicate with your neighbours regarding solving the problem

  • Call us before investing money in proofing; proofing may be unnecessary and costly
