Rats, Common Name Brown Rat or Sewer Rats, Scientific Name Rattus norvegicus – Norway Rat
This is the only species of Rat you are likely to encounter in Ireland. It is called by so many different names it has given rise to the belief that there are a large of rat species in Ireland.
Quite often Rats have entered our houses as a result of an entry point that they have found, but it is not obvious to us. Sometimes they may even decide just to take up temporary residence in our garden within shrubs or compost heaps.
